Adaobi Okwy: About Linda Ikeji… Is there no reasonable Nigerian?

Let me be honest, I despise blogs- particularly, rumor sites and celebrity. I hate, hate, hate them but then, I am aware of Nigeria’s leading blogger- Linda Ikeji and she is respected by me both as an entrepreneur so when a girl.

The truth is, I respect her beyond these two points. I value the reality that her blog is her brain child and that her commitment has made her an enormous influence on what millions of men and women respond to. I may loathe her type of blogs but I love, adore, love this girl which is the reason why this article is all about her.

Then she showed me some images that only “astounding” could describe. I had been joyful for girls, for Linda and for entrepreneurs . Really, “it is potential”.

Within a day nevertheless, my sister came again to me boiling in rage. “Folks are so mean. You people’re insulting Linda throughout the internet- trolling my sister, calling her a hooker sleeping around with politicians. She should go and get married as without a man, that, all her accomplishments are nothing. Would you understand that whether 2am or 5am, if you go to her site, you’d see content that is fresh? What do the man mean? Is there no sane person in Nigeria?”

So yesterday, I ultimately went on-line to sample the opinions of the trolling Linda Ikeji. My sister was not exaggerating. Folks were mean.

Truthfully, none is deserving of a second of Linda’s focus because Linda deserves none of their foolishness so I’ll respond (and hope she approves).

The “A girl is nothing without a man” set: Is this a Scriptural? A cultural teaching? A philosophical musing or a bash-the-super successful-single-woman-over-the-head-because-she-makes-my-best-efforts-a-joke envy address?

You lie if you said cultural. What culture and what do you people do along with your unmarried men and girls – slaughter them?

If your response is a philosophical musing- whose? And when it’s your envy speaking against the sleepless nights the hardwork, the pains and labours of your fellow human being, simply because she is a girl, you and God who set women on this particular earth fight with. It’s a lot more black when women are in this group- setting back the courageous gender equality conflicts of women and men past and present, backwards to the cavern. You who takes your being from being a man or from your man, why have not you bought your mansion?

The “you are sleeping about” Set: The undeniable fact which you have no photographic or video proof to backup your background noise, makes your point mute. If Linda were a guy, would it not be, “Yes boss”, “Carry on boss”, “God bless you boss”? It’s the same for other single female stars that are trolled. Mediocrity’s voice is not same although rational. In the event you’re a married woman, they ask one to get the internet off and go take care of your husband and union. The men trolls are clearly smallminded guys who feel threatened by the greatness of a woman and need validation within their particular lives. The trolls that are female clearly have the men as their vine. They have purchased to the patriarchal dominance and so are okay living a guy focused life.

For the male celebrities and politicians, no one would produce a sound about wife, girlfriend, mistress, sugar mums, baby mamas, exwives, history history history of domestic abuse. Here we have a girl that has no scandal to whose handwork’s name a woman she is not unclear, a girl who keeps you amused, and you lift up your hands to hurl stones? You do not need disapprobation, you need Jesus.

The “Give every one of these earthly/material things to the poor” Set: Perhaps you have even benefitted from one of Linda IKeji’s numerous giveaways. Maybe you have heard the woman give a speech or read her life story and it inspired you. Maybe you live under a rock and also you do not understand that Linda Ikeji is both a philanthropist and also a social activist (those awful roads and light posts she talks of and they get mended- yes) and that she’s contributed immensely towards the general good of the society. But let us not focus completely on Linda. Let’s focus for you. That poor woman, man, child, pupil, relative, pastor, neighbor, etc, have you ever given just as much as you should to them? Maybe you have spoken up for someone heard? Have you given away clothes money and not just because it’s your birthday or Valentine’s day? Are you contributing towards the Nigeria economy’s development by working your butt off to provide worth? A saint are you if you scored 100 percent. Do not have any business in case you weren’t a 100.

Let’s recognize great that good will come to us. Let’s not be a country of haters. That is why brightest and our best skip town and not want to return. She’s an icon and one super woman.

Not or married, sleeping or not, giving to the poor or not, I salute her. She inspires, influences and amuses millions daily (my sister included). And I expect she doesn’t halt with just one mansion, I expect she buys an isle next and figure what? She thoroughly deserves her blessings.

So perhaps throw away your chilly, rugged and sanctimonious sofa of self -righteousness because Linda Ikeji is most likely frolicking in that colossal pool in her billion naira mansion.
