Gardening Advice For Kids

2015-06-28 | Author: | Posted in Gardening

Gardening is not only for the adults. Children can have so much fun and benefit from it too. If you want your children to learn the art of gardening, you have to be a good example to them. If you are a good gardener yourself, taking fun and responsibility at what it takes for this activity, it would not be difficult for your children to follow. Gardening is a hobby that can provide lots of benefits both to you and your children.

What are the benefits that your children can reap by engaging them into this rewarding hobby? Of course, the first one is the sense of accomplishment they get whenever they see the fruit of their labor. Seeing the fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, and beautiful flowers will boost their confidence because of the accomplishment.

But beyond this accomplishment are the values that you instill in them. It is not only the sense of accomplishment but the responsibility they learn to deal with and the rewards after their actions. These are valuable benefits that your children can use as they grow up and have to make social interactions.

When it comes to gardening, you will decide what method is best for them. You can choose whether it will be soil gardening or hydroponics. It doesn’t matter what it is since both can give them fun and exciting time as well as productive labor and fruits. Each method has its own advantages and disadvantages so you might want to research first which one would be most beneficial to you and to your children.

Having the right tools and supplies will give you both an easy start with this project. Whether it is going to be an indoor or outdoor gardening, you must give the children the freedom to choose their own tools and equipments, with your guidance of course.

These things come in kiddie sizes too, so think of how much it is going to be for them as they get to have their own tools. Also, allow them to pick the type of plants they want to grow. As much as possible, let them pick first the ones that grow easily so teach them of what you know about plants.

At first, it is expected that you will have to do the major gardening work. They are learning so give them the best teaching that you could by setting a very good example in the first few days. Children learn in different ways. There are those who are best in visual learning while others do well in sensory learning. Whatever it is, show them the things that need to be done or let them feel the essence of the plants, soil, and the elements of gardening.

As they take care of their plants, always let them know that you are there to guide them should anything wrong happen or if they have questions regarding gardening activities. It doesn’t matter if your children get to have the wackiest plant choices or the most mismatched ones, for as long as they are enjoying and having a sense of pride in this activity, you know that the hobby is giving them benefits and valuable lessons.
